JOURNAL / COMMUNICATION
What do you need
this conversation to do?
Before you rehearse your opening line, get clear about the purpose.
Book a discovery callNAIROBI ROOTS. A WIDER CONVERSATION.
01 / DESCRIBE
Separate what happened from your interpretation.
“The report arrived after the agreed time” is different from “You never take this seriously.” Write down the event you want to discuss. Notice where you have added a judgement about the person.
02 / ASK
Leave room for information you do not have.
Try: “What got in the way?” Then listen. An explanation may reveal an unclear brief or competing responsibilities. It does not automatically remove accountability.
Book a discovery call03 / AGREE
Make the next step specific.
What needs to happen, who will do it and when will you check in? Keep the request realistic. If you do not have the authority to resolve the underlying issue, name who needs to be involved.
This is a general reflection, not a substitute for formal safeguarding, grievance or disciplinary procedures where those apply.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Start with what is happening.
We can discuss what you need and what the next step could look like.
